Minor League Baseball-Papillion, NE

Papillion, NE

Main entrance gate
One of the reasons we decided to visit the Papillion, NE area was to catch a few minor league baseball games.  The area has a relatively new stadium built in 2010 named Werner Field.

Panorama inside the park
It's home to the Omaha Storm Chasers of the Pacific Northern League.  The Storm Chasers are a AAA farm team for the Kansas City Royals major league team. (For those not knowledgeable about the "farm structure" of baseball, AAA teams are the last step before players make it to the Major League.)  We really like attending minor league baseball games because the tickets are still reasonably priced, the teams have goofy, but fun promotions nightly, and the stadiums are small enough to actually see the players and the games up close.

Home team dugout
We could ordinarily never be able to afford tickets at a major league game right behind the home team dugout, but we could here.  We sat on the front front for 3 of our 4 games.  Great views.

We purchased tickets online for Saturday evening, Sunday afternoon, and Monday evening a few weeks in advance of our arrival in Papillion.  We wound up seeing a "bonus" game as the 2nd game of a double header on Sunday afternoon due to a prior "rained out" game from earlier in the year.

"Stormy" and Steve
Minor league teams have a lot of unusual team mascots. The Storm Chasers main mascot is named "Stormy".

Although the Storm Chasers were only able to win 1 of the 4 games we attended we still had a very enjoyable time.  Saturday night featured Dave Smith, Jr. "The Human Cannonball" at the conclusion of the game.

If you have any interest in baseball at all, you should select a nearby minor league game to attend.  It's probably much cheaper than a movie, and a lot more fun.

Thanks for dropping by to take a look!

  1. I used to attend the Fort Smith "Giants" almost every time they played, it was a minor league of the NY Giants. They played Topeka, Levenworth, and I've forgotten the other teams. It was fun.

  2. I went to a Pawsocks game in RI (Farm team for the Red Sox) when they played the Yankees farm team. I wore my Yankees hat and wasn't too well received. You'd have thought I had a strange illness or three eyes the way people avoided me... :cD

Marti is a Red Sox fan (she's from MA) and I'm a Yankees fan (NJ), the Yankees won and she didn't talk to me the rest of the night. :c(

    1. I wore my Washington Nationals hat to all of the games here, but I guess it wasn't as bad since the Nationals and KC Royals are in different leagues. Also, the KC Royals aren't doing too well right now.
