Wow, our stay in Park City, UT has flown by.  This will definitely be one of the areas for a return visit someday.

Last Saturday we decided to take a drive east of Park City on Rt. 150 on what is called the Mirror Lake Scenic Byway. Approximately 6 miles east of Park City we started climbing and drove beside the Jordanelle Reservoir. Beautiful water area with lots of people boating on a beautiful Saturday afternoon.

The Scenic Byway makes the claim of being the highest paved road in the state of Utah at Bald Mountain Pass. It was also starting to get a bit chilly up here.

We reached Mirror Lake after descending a couple of hundred feet.  Mirror Lake is positioned right about 10,000 feet.  We watched a few folks putting some boats in the water to fish.

We decided to take a hike on the trail around the perimeter of the lake even though we didn’t have our normal hiking shoes. The trail is easy to  navigate in regular tennis shoes.  Here’s a look at the mountain peaks to the west.

Picnicking, hiking, boating, and fishing is allowed in and around the lake.  There is a campground with limited facilities nearby, but I don’t believe our rig would fit.  As it was beginning to get a bit chilly, it was time to head back to Park City.

Tuesday was our last day in Park City.  We’ve now moved a couple of hundred miles south to Torrey, UT to visit Capitol Reef National Park.  Posts from this area will probably be delayed as internet reception is this area (through Verizon, at least) is VERY slow.  We are currently experiencing speeds of “1X” most of the time.

On an unrelated note, we want to say thank you to everyone who takes a look at our blog, whether on a regular basis or just as an occasional reader.  We just passed the 100,000 views level yesterday (September 17).  That’s pretty good considering the first 50,000 views took 13 months.  The second 50,000 views took just another 9 months.

Thanks again for taking a look at our blog!

  4. Amazing place you've visited, normally one would picture Utah as all desert and rocks. Just goes to show the gems that are out there waiting to be discovered!

    1. Paul, that's one of the greatest things about visiting these areas. There is SO much to see and do that we "easterners" never knew about.

  6. Looks like a gorgeous place to go that we didn't get to since we had to turn around. Really envying you being in Capitol Reef and if you can even get 1X in Torrey with Verizon you are doing better than we did. That's how I got so far behind. Too many days without internet having a wonderful time in Capitol Reef. Can't wait to read what you do there.

    1. Sherry I'm behind already with the posts. The internet barely works at all most of the time.
I read some of your posts about Capitol Reef. Mine just seem like a quick overview compared to the ones you write.
